Green Chartreuse

General Description

Green Chartreuse is a famously intense herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks from a large blend of botanicals. It’s high-proof for a liqueur and tastes like concentrated alpine herbs, mint, anise, peppery green spice, and sweetness.

It behaves like both a sweetener and a complex “herbal engine” in cocktails. Small amounts can dominate; the magic is how it adds bright green aromatics and a long, layered finish.

Green Chartreuse

Green Chartreuse has no replacement—it's one of the truly irreplaceable bottles in a serious bar. The centuries-old monastic recipe produces something no imitator has matched: that specific combination of alpine herbs, mint, anise, and mysterious botanical complexity. Use it sparingly (it dominates easily), but when a cocktail calls for it, nothing else will do. Last Word, Bijou, Naked and Famous—these drinks exist because of Chartreuse.
