Aperol

General Description

Aperol is a bright orange Italian aperitivo liqueur built on bitter orange, gentian, and rhubarb-like herbal tones. It’s intentionally lower in bitterness and intensity than Campari, with a softer, sweeter profile.

Flavor-wise it’s citrus peel, light herbal bitterness, and a gentle medicinal edge, designed to be easy with sparkling wine or soda. Its main role is adding bitter-orange lift and color without taking over the drink.

Reference Product

Aperol

Aperol is one of those bottles where the brand genuinely matters. Cheap alternatives exist but tend to taste medicinal and harsh, missing the soft, approachable bitterness that makes Aperol work in a Spritz or with sparkling wine. The original has a balanced sweetness and gentle herbal character that imitators struggle to replicate. This is simply not a category where saving a few dollars makes sense.
